Subway Bae
One of the funny pictures that trended in September 2019 was this New York lady, Jessica George. She went viral for uploading a video of herself on the subway having a sultry photoshoot session. It was a minute-long video of her posing for selfies repeatedly.
Although it appeared as though her co-passengers ignored her display, she seemed to be focused on the shoot, which was being taken with a camera propped against the train seat. Her videos got over 9.3 million views on the Internet, making her an overnight celebrity, earning her the name "Subway Bae."
Subway Nightlife
It's almost impossible to ride the late-night subway without coming across young party girls. It can be pretty annoying to come across youngsters who have gone out to have fun all night while trying to get back home after a tiring day or night at work. It doesn't matter if said youngsters are just going through what we call "a phase!"
Sometimes we even get jealous of these party girls shoving their youthful lifestyle and free time in our faces. This picture captured precisely the excitement and the atmosphere of the underground nightlife and its users.
Forgot Your Shoes? Plastic Wrap to the Rescue!
It seems someone forgot their shoes and decided to improvise. Unless this is a new trend, we can't think of any other reason why plastic wrap had to substitute for actual footwear. And it looks like the perfect choice, especially if it's a rainy day outside.
The reason why she's barefoot in the first place is unknown, but we can applaud her creative thinking skills. If you forgot your shoes at home, or perhaps have a blister, just get duct tape or plastic wrap and improvise! We can't assure you of comfort, but focus on practicality!
Grooming on The Subway
Too late to shave your legs at home for that hot date? You can do it in transit, just like this passenger here. Waiting for three minutes before catching a train may not be such a big deal to you, but to some, it may feel like an eternity. What other way is there to occupy that time?
This woman, however, seems to be taking time management a bit too far by doing her personal grooming right there on the subway. We'll give it to her for being well-equipped, though, shaving foam and all. This only shows that it was a premeditated thing unless makes a habit out of it.
Morning Workout
Yoga is one of the most peaceful and relaxing activities, and we believe the environment also matters. We understand the need to catch up on your routine, but on the subway? She's probably using this as a way to ward off annoying people because she is breaking all the Zen rules by doing a yoga demonstration on the subway of all places.
We feel exactly what that young man right next to her is feeling. If you miss out on your morning exercise, there are other ways to make up for it rather than showing off to everyone in a public space. Can you please do it at a more appropriate location? What's next, subway weightlifters?
Career Hustle
Do you want to up your career game? Learn from these serious corporate guys and carry a portable meeting desk around with you. Because who knows when the need for it may arise, and you want to always be ready, right? It appears these men don't want any time wasted, not even a few minutes while on the subway.
Their position looks extremely uncomfortable, and the other commuters will be listening in on their meeting, but who cares? Their career is the top priority; privacy and comfort can take a back seat for now.
Subway Funeral
Whether it's an actual funeral or a stunt, this is undoubtedly one of the most unusual sights we've come across on the subway. Was this a special request by the dead or included in their will, or a cost-cutting means of transportation?
Whatever the case may be, it's one heck of a coffin procession, and we can't imagine what could be going through people's minds in the vicinity. However, what's going through ours is if and how they paid for a coffin ticket or if it's a free ride for the dead.
Future Obama
If you didn't know better, you'd think this is Barack Obama. A look at the man in the picture, and you'd realize he's not in a joyous mood, and it's easy to guess why. It can't be easy being a look-alike of the former President of the United States.
For sure, you'd catch the attention of strangers even if you just want to be left alone. Strangers would walk up to you for autographs, and worst of all, you'd get harassed and photographed, even when it's known that you're not who they thought you were initially. We do hope there are some advantages to the resemblance.
Devil in Disguise
Sometimes, you have to wonder why people do what they do. What could be the motive behind putting on a full costume for a subway ride? Some people enjoy freaking people out in public places.
It can be pretty funny and scary all at the same time, especially for commuters with a vivid and wild imagination. Some are probably used to seeing weird stuff underground, but we bet children won't find it funny. He looks daunting with his glowing red eyes and long claws, and it's surprising how relaxed his fellow commuters are.
Plunger Hack
In this collection of weird subway pictures, seeing this woman's funny and inventive way of improvising is refreshing. We're sure she has had enough of stumbling and bumping on the subway and therefore decided to develop a clever way to keep herself firmly on the ground during rush hour on the train.
We might take a page out of this woman's book because she has apparently discovered a perfect alternative to holding on to a pole that hundreds of other hands have touched. Another clever use of a plunger that we never thought of before!
Japanese Invention
Never mind the woman with the toilet plunger invention. This is another invention that is probably already patented. This is perhaps one of Kenji Kawakami's inventions. He is known for inventing ingenious everyday items that create solutions to simple problems; while creating another problem in the process. The term for this is "Chindōgu" in Japanese.
If you're on a Subway and can't find a place to sit, here's a solution for you. Chin support is ideal for getting a few minutes of rest before the hustle and bustle of the day. We just hope it's not more trouble than it's worth.
Traveling Trash
Imagine having to journey to your place of work with this very unpalatable sight. Let's not even talk about the potential smell! A considerable amount of 267.8 million tons of solid waste is generated yearly in the United States alone. The individuals behind the humongous amount of litter seen in this picture certainly contributed to that stat.
Yes, we know recycling is necessary. We wonder if this was collected on the subway or if an individual is transporting it. If the latter, it sure is a problem when you're not recycling down the road but have to take it to the not-so-near recycling bin two subway stations away.
Costume or Camouflage?
It's hard to say whether this commuter is on his way to a Halloween party in his costume or just plain shy and doesn't want to face the people on the subway. Whichever one it is, it makes for a pretty random sight.
If being shy was the case, though, he's done precisely the opposite of what he intends and has drawn attention to himself with the ghillie suit he's wearing. From another angle, though, he could be a trainee army member who just thinks it cool to commute to work in his camouflage.
Show Us A More Gothic Picture
Gone are the days when gothic styles were considered shocking and out of place. These days, goths are everywhere with their uniquely dark appearance. Still, it's one thing to be a goth all dressed in black, and another to take it to the next level like this.
Apparently, it's not only Edgar Allan Poe who has a thing for black ravens. Judging from the black raven perched on the lap, the young person in this picture indeed takes the gothic mission seriously. It's just unfortunate that their powers aren't strong enough to fly them home.
A Ride With Jesus
If you ride on a subway regularly, you'll know it's one place you're sure to find weird and wonderful people of all kinds. You never know what you'll come across from one day to the next. You might just come across Jesus...or his look-alike. Though the real Jesus Christ was last seen ages ago, there's never been a shortage of his copycats and impersonators everywhere, including the subway.
With the right build, tunic, and classic beard style, you'll be told you look like him. This look-alike is doing it right because he looks the part so much he got photographed. He seems unbothered by the attention, though.
Like Mother, Like Daughter
This cute photo is probably the happiest yoga pose you'll find on the Internet today. This beautiful yogi mom is catching her daughter young, and they both are undoubtedly enjoying it. And what do you know; they're practicing the famous "Ananda Balasana" pose, which is also known as the "happy baby pose."
This mother-daughter yoga moment is not surprising. The mom in this picture is none other than the famous yoga instructor, Hilaria Baldwin, who co-owns Yoga Vida, a chain yoga studio in New York. Carmen is her first daughter and was just six months old at the time the picture was taken.
Groceries At Your Fingertips
Why go through the stress of disembarking and then go grocery shopping? It's right there while on your way to wherever. Can we say this is a thoughtful idea or just bizarre? Well, whatever we think, it's a common sight in Seoul, South Korea, to find a grocery store in the subway.
Combining traveling and shopping is innovative and makes life bearable, especially when you spend so much time on the train. The subway is just another place of business, and a mobile grocery store is as good as any place to start, Afterall, who doesn't need groceries.
Support Your Nose While Napping
A look at this picture, and you'd never look at these bars over subway seats the same way again. The confusing part of the whole thing is how the bar could support her nose without actually hurting because it doesn't look comfortable from where we stand.
However, she doesn't seem to mind and is probably having a good snooze on the subway. Apart from the possibility of waking up to find mucus all over that bar she's resting on, we do hope that someone wakes her up before she misses her stop.
Not Your Regular Bridal Carriage
One of the happiest days in a woman's life is her wedding day, and most try to make it as memorable as possible. However, we don't think that this woman would like to commit this day to memory as she seems to be having a bad day.
Seeing sad people on the subway is almost expected, but seeing this unhappy damsel still in her frock is unusual. In this particular carriage, it's doubtful there's anyone as upset as she is. We have no idea what happened to her on a day that's supposed to be her special day, and we can only wish her well in her endeavors.
The Hide-My-Face Hair
There are two interesting people in this picture. The first is the woman with the impressive hairstyle that also serves as a face cover which is made even more effective with her matching dark glasses.
The second person of interest is the man sitting right beside her. It's astonishing how he can look so bored and unbothered by the spectacle beside him. He's probably lost in his own world thinking about his bills and everything else he needs to sort out. The gal beside him is perhaps the least of his worries!
Baker on Board
For many people, the go-to means of transport to and from work is the subway. Therefore, it's not so rare to see commuters finishing up their work in transit. You'd think that's what this picture is all about. A quick fix and finishing touches to a cake are expected if it's to be delivered very soon, right? You're mistaken, though.
This is Bettina Banayan, a culinary student in New York City, who brought a cake on a subway, decorated it, and shared it with fellow passengers. This is undoubtedly one subway experience we wouldn't mind having.
Santa Unveiled
Over the years, it's been proven that the subway is not a place for children, and this photo is one of those proofs. This has got to be one of the most heartbreaking ways of getting to know the authnticity of Santa Claus. After believing that Santa was real and looking forward to Christmas presents from him yearly, this poor kid has just found out that it's all a lie.
From the look of the "Santa," it's clear that he is not proud of his actions. Not only is he having a drink on the subway, but he's also missing his Santa beard and belly.
The Napping Bunch
From the matching shirts to their sleeping positions, we can assume that these guys have had some fun wherever they're coming from, which is probably a festival or a bachelor's evening. They had so much fun that they got exhausted and had to nap on the way home, albeit a somewhat unsophisticated one.
Though it's weird to see grown-ups matching this way, it also makes for a funny scene, especially when we look at the one that had to settle on the subway floor. We hope they see the funny side of this picture when they see this.
Fans Who Go All Out
Soccer fans are some of the most die-hard fans in the world of sport. It's easy to know when it's soccer season because everywhere is buzzing with the excitement and cheers that only the sport can generate. This picture of the Brazilian fans at the Moscow Metro speaks volumes about how fun and dedicated the sports fans can be.
When Russia hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2018, these Brazilian fans took it upon themselves to show up in a grand style to support the Brazilian national football team. Sadly, the Brazilian team didn't win the tournament.
The Emperor Returns
What would you do if you were hot on the subway and found that you're sitting right next to a legend you've only read about and is said to have died many years back? Would you engage in a discussion or ignore them?
Look-alikes are not a new thing, and this man looks exactly like Napoleon Bonaparte, who was said to have died of stomach cancer while he was in exile on the island of Saint Helena. Could it be that he's made a comeback? After all, the great French conqueror looks ready to take control once again.
Pet on Board
Although one of the most friendly and majestic dogs you can have is the Great Dane, we don't think it's an ideal pet to take on a subway ride. This iconic breed can be great boar hunters, and they can indeed be wonderful company in the countryside. Still, they are far from being city hounds.
Many would call you crazy if you keep a Great Dane in your city apartment, not to mention bringing your furry friend along in a space as enclosed as a subway. The dog can take up unnecessary space and also intimidate fellow commuters.
Meal Prep
Being a mom is hard work, no doubt. Being a single mom who has to be at work all day and still go home to care for her family in New York City is even worse. Therefore we can't really blame this woman for making the most of her ride home, can we?
Other passengers might find her time-saving stint funny or off-putting. She looks unbothered and focused on the task at hand. At least, that will be one less thing to do when she gets back home, making her day a little easier, and dinner will be ready in no time.
We Don't Approve, Either
Whether you're feeling happy and having a good day doesn't matter, when you have someone like this woman sitting next to you on the subway, the day is not looking great. From the look of things, this is precisely the case with this man, and it's not difficult to guess why. Why would anyone want to clip their toenails in public and on the subway, at that?
It's amazing how some individuals act as if they're invisible or alone while on the subway. Hygiene and politeness apart, it's not hard to be civil in a public place for just a few minutes.
Unique Diversity
There are many famous subways all around the globe. However, none can be compared to the New York City subway. It is where you see the core of what the Big Apple really is: A hub of culturally rich and fascinating people, with different types of styles and cultures, duly represented.
This outstanding picture shows just that: Two New Yorkers on two opposite sides of the cultural spectrum sitting side-by-side without any trouble. This indicates that no matter what your belief is, you'll still have to co-exist or journey with others that have different beliefs as you in one way or the other.
Einstein's Doppelgänger or a Time Traveler?
Albert Einstein is one genius who has found his place in history after all his theories about relativity. One of his many findings is about time and how it works. One of his theories is that an illusion is a dividing line between past, present, and future.
This subway commuter, snapped on a subway in Buenos Aires, is definitely giving us a time-traveling vibe because he really does look like the famous Austrian scientist. Or maybe it's just Einstein who's figured out time traveling and has come back to save the world.
An Unhappy Angel
Someone is having a hard time adjusting! This lady probably misses heaven and is already regretting her decision to migrate. We can't blame her though, the conditions here are pretty different from those up there. A few wrong choices, and here she is, stranded on planet earth with wings that won't work, forcing her to make use of the subway.
Even her angelic appearance is gone, replaced with a frustrated and aged look of an earth-dweller who's accepted their fate. We feel a bit sorry though, it can't be easy to drop down from such a high place.
The Bee Custodian
Either this is one careless beekeeper or someone who just wants people to steer clear of him. If the latter was the aim, then he's done a pretty good job of keeping people away from his personal space, which is a rare thing on the train. However, if he's a beekeeper, then this might be a disaster waiting to happen.
Imagine what would have happened if the rubber band used to hold the whole thing together snapped. We can already see what the headlines will look like, "Innocent Passengers Stung by Bees in Transit," or "Turmoil on Subway as Bees Take Over."
Someone Sure Loves Their Video Game
We don't know the story behind this, but several people have seen this guy playing his Xbox on the New York Subway. He probably took "playing outside" the wrong way and decided to take his Xbox to the subway, spending the whole day upgrading his skills.
Another scenario to consider is that he possibly has a strict mother who doesn't allow him to play his video games at home. However, one must wonder if this is not an addiction because we do not doubt that it can be a real problem these days, considering that it contributes to obesity and a sedentary lifestyle.
Turtle on a Leash
Many things are puzzling about this picture. The first one is the fact that a turtle is found on the subway. Did someone really choose to take the pet turtle on a trip? There's been a lot of pet owners on the train but a turtle?
Another thing is that the poor little animal is on a leash like a dog. Seeing a leash on a turtle is a new one and doesn't make sense because everyone knows that turtles are pretty slow and can't really get away from you too fast.
Visible Imaginary Friend
Being a lone traveler can be pretty dull and lonely sometimes, especially if you're not the social type. This young man was apparently tired of riding the train alone every day and decided to build a friend for himself.
Though he gets to spend time with his new friend, it also set him apart from other people on the subway because it's not a normal thing to have a physical, hand-made paper friend. Who would see a fellow commuter chatting with a lifeless doll and choose to sit by him? Not us!
Creepier and Creepier
If you're accustomed to riding the subway, this odd image is probably something that doesn't make you shiver. But when you're not used to the strange wonders of the city, seeing this guy wearing a mask is bad enough to cost you a good night of sleep.
We're not saying this guy is a serial killer who's about to make a dummy out of human body parts. We're just saying that if a serial killer ever happened to visit a costume store, that's probably the mask he would end up choosing.
The Kitten Lady
One of the things that's not usually allowed on the metro is pets or animals of any kind. One thing is sure, though; people will always find a way around rules, which is what is happening in this photo. This woman can't part with her beloved kitten and has no other choice than hide it in her coat.
It seems pretty cozy and safe until you see the disapproval on her face, which hints at her giving a warning look to someone nearby. The unlucky commuter was probably caught taking this photo.
A Pizza Apology
As we grow older, we understand that apologies are not just about grand gestures, and the word "sorry" doesn't always solve things. Instead, a genuinely remorseful stance and a solution are needed. However, this young man is yet to get that memo, or he probably thinks his cute romantic gesture is all that's required.
Well, we can't fault him, but we can't say if it'll work or not. After all, only he knows the gravity of what he did and what it takes to soften the heart of the person he offends. Pizza could be the answer!
Weird Doll Lady
We know that style is a personal choice, and it's a way to express oneself uniquely. However, there's a vast difference between putting on a groovy jacket and portraying yourself as the bearer of beheaded Barbie dolls' heads. If you asked us, we'd say it's just creepy.
You may argue that there's no problem here, and she's just original, right? Well, we can read different meanings into her outfit. One is that maybe she's trying to pass a message of threat across to someone. Whatever her reason is, we don't think she'd be in anyone's good books with her dress; even the police would take a second look.
Vegetarian Overdo
Too much of everything, they say, is bad. Indeed, you can have too much of a good thing. Don't you believe this? A look at this picture will tell you all you need to know. Apparently, this man's love for vegetables is on another level, seeing as he couldn't even control himself at the subway.
Of course, we understand that vegetables are good for you, but this man loves his lettuce a little too much. Either the lettuce is too juicy and tasty to resist, or he is too hungry for some greens.
Designer Chicken
If you love birds and have the space for them, it might be a great idea to rear them or keep them as pets. However, living in the city and having chickens as pets is a pretty unrealistic decision. How do you intend to transport your pet chicken with you everywhere if you're forced to use public transport?
This commuter here is probably an exception and is the proud owner of a beautiful pink-feathered chicken that he pampers like a baby. How many chickens can be allowed to travel in a baby carriage and be fed Cheerios while at it? It indeed takes a special kind.
Artificial Twins or Photoshop?
This image is one of those that'll have you look again and again, probably causing an argument between friends. With the same tastes in outfits and sleeping positions, these men should probably get to know each other after this ride. Who knows? They could be long-lost relatives.
You'd probably think this is a Photoshop trick if you're not familiar with image manipulation. However, a professional will tell you there's nothing digitally altered in this photo. Another explanation could be that it's a team uniform, but that doesn't explain the weird resemblance and mannerisms.
Creative Halloween Costume
Last-minute invites to Halloween parties are the worst because you're forced to improvise and make do with whatever you have or can create at the last minute, which may not be as good as the costume you'd typically pick if you had the time.
Not with this woman, though. She's a master at improvising, as clearly seen from the Alien-themed mask that she probably put together moments before leaving for the party. Not only will it serve its purpose as a costume, but it'll also serve to keep unwanted commuters away on the subway. A win-win!
Weird Coincidence
Finding humor in odd situations is one gift this man has because we can't imagine finding it funny when you're matching with a subway seat. Many people would probably hide their faces in shame, but this brave young man doesn't seem to mind at all.
If anything, he's enjoying the attention and even struck a pose for the photograph. We really admire his attitude to this seemingly problem situation. He's the kind of person that people like to hire for a job or be friends with. He would make a great motivational speaker for sure!
A Gathering of Baldies
Now, this is one very unusual and unsettling sight. Either these men are coming from a meeting of bald men, or it's a strange coincidence. We've seen our share of strange stuff, but having this number of men without hair at the same place and time makes for a bizarre image that looks like something out of a paranormal episode.
The last time we saw something quite related was when we went to the Blue Man Group show. And you know what's more unsettling about this? These men seem oblivious to what's going on.
Fight on the Subway
Something as puzzling as this picture will bring out the Sherlock Holmes in anyone. Now add to that the fact that this is on a subway, and it's pretty weird. Some of the questions we have in mind are: What exactly happened here? Who owns all these locks?
We can only think of two possible reasons for this scene. Either some people lost their wigs in a very unusual storm-like wind, or there was a catfight that involved lots of hair-pulling. Either of the two scenarios look funny, and the result would definitely not be a pleasant sight.
Panda-monium
Asians are unique people. Not to stereotype, but really, this is one of those "only in Japan" situations which would most likely cause pandemonium elsewhere. It's one of those sights that might seem pretty normal to a Japanese person but would look weird to any other person.
From the look of things here, it's safe to say that everyone involved in this spectacle has a love for pandas, including the subway officials. Because of this, this crisis would probably cause a delay in the subway, but these people don't mind at all.
Mind Over Matter
It's not an unusual sight to see people sleeping on the subway. With the number of commuters who nap while in transit, you'd think the seats would have been made more comfortable by now. But then who needs a bed when you're in desperate need of a nap? All you need is a space to lay your head.
This man here seems to be making the most of it after a busy day at work, and he's certainly not letting the limited space stop him. Though the chances of waking up with backache are pretty high, he still found a way to fit his whole body on the seat.
The Harpy Man
With such a forlorn look on his face, one can only imagine what's going through this man's head. He probably has someone waiting for him on the other side, or maybe he's just thinking about being a better player. Practice, they say, makes perfect, and we are sure he's putting in the work. After all, it's not every day that you see a harp player on the subway.
Compared to other bizarre happenings on the train, a man playing the harp, which is a gentle, stringed instrument, is a welcomed development.
The Brits Doing British Things
Guess where this subway is located! Yes, it's a British subway, and no, it's not an official sign, but it's the kind of thing you might expect from the Brits. It's a well-known fact that they cherish their privacy and often don't appreciate being bothered by strangers. Still, isn't this taking things to the extreme?
Yes, we understand urban solitude and the need to maintain your distance but in one of the most populated cities in the world? You would most likely feel alone. There's a positive side to this whole thing, though; you get to enjoy your ride with no disturbance from anyone. It has to count for something!
