Do It Yourself (DIY) projects have risen in popularity in the past couple of years, particularly when it comes to sprucing things up around the home. The Internet is flooded with clever ideas to repurpose the old and worn out things you have lying around the house into functional or artsy items. Several people have made treasures out of their trash using some of these guidelines, but others have left us puzzled with the creations they came up with.

We are talking about the odd, bizarre, and stuff of nightmares that will leave you wondering what you just saw. From plant pots fashioned out of doll heads to a mailbox crafted out of a microwave that’s still plugged in, we can conclude that some folks out there take DIY to a whole new level. Brace yourself because we’ve rounded up a collection of some of the craziest eyebrow-raising DIY projects we’ve come across.

Hair-raising Clip

We might be missing something here because it looks like dolls are all the rage, and we should think about incorporating them into our decor. This lady found a way to include her old doll into a DIY hair clip, and the look of it is hair-raising, to say the least.

It looks like a baby-sized hand clawing its way out of someone’s head. We don’t know what they were going for, but if it was the scare factor, they have nailed it. Tim Burton can get tons of inspiration for his next big film from most of these DIY projects.

Mindful Hat

Diets come and go, but the resolve to lose weight sticks around over the years. Weight Watchers is one of these weight loss programs that have also stood the test of time, and someone seems to think that it tops the rest.

We imagine this is someone’s grandma who decided to do some recycling, and they didn’t let the Weight Watchers strawberry soda packaging they had to go to waste. It reminds whoever has it on to watch what they eat, so we can say that it is a mindful hat.

Doll Wine Glass

You haven’t had the full wine experience until you try drinking it out of a DIY doll wine glass. This doll revolution is becoming something else, and anyone who wants to join in on the trend can follow these 23 quick steps to transform a doll into a wine glass.

We want to believe that most of these doll-related creations are exclusively meant for Halloween-themed purposes. Sadly, we know that humans will be humans, and someone somewhere has a full set of these wine glasses just waiting for their next dinner party.

Fence On Wheels

There are things in this world that we can’t explain, and this is one of them. The series of events that left this van as part of the fence or saw the fence installed around the vehicle would remain a mystery until someone clears things up.

The person who installed the fence must have some sentimental attachment to the van, and they figured it added some aesthetic value to the fence. It undoubtedly makes other vehicles slow down, and maybe that’s the whole point if this happens to be an accident-prone area.

Tooth Lighter

People collect strange things, and for some reason, we’ll never understand why some people have a stash of teeth lying around the house. Filmstar, Justin Theroux must be happy to see this one because he reportedly used to collect human teeth.

To clear it up, these are not real teeth, but it might give folks who boast of such collections ideas. Regardless, this lighter makes us grind our teeth because of its realistic look. You can buy fake teeth for this specific reason, but this is a DIY project that we’ll be skipping.

Mightier Than The Sword

They say that the pen is mightier than the sword, so we imagine that the texts written in books are powerful beyond measure. Well, in this household, the works of publications they have lying around don’t mean more than just being words on paper.

That’s why the person decided to transform them into a knife holder. They strung together four books and stuck their collection of knives in them. It's clever, but it pains us because these look like a couple of vintage books that should be treasured instead of essentially butchered in the name of a DIY project.

Heated Mail

It never hurts to give your mailbox a bit of personality, and sprucing it up is a popular DIY project. We’ve seen people come up with birdhouse mailboxes, among other creative and cool ideas. This homeowner had an unused microwave lying around and decided to convert it into a mailbox.

We wonder why they chose to have it plugged in, but it might just be part of the gag. At least that’s what we hope. Otherwise, things would get really heated up whenever the mailman stopped by in unfavorable weather.

Sole-less Shoes

The barefoot community is growing by the day, and yes, some folks don’t believe in confining your feet. The sole-less believers will walk around barefoot, disregarding hygiene, and other dangers looming beneath their feet.

This bizarre-seeming DIY instructs people how to ruin a perfectly good pair of shoes in the name of going barefoot. It works in the event that you need to access places where shoes are a requirement, but you still want to free your soles. We are feeling all kinds of disturbed looking at this person’s feet.

Liam Nissan

Liam Neeson ranks high on the list of action stars, and you can bet that there will be an action-packed vehicle scene in the movies he headlines. While most of us appreciate his talent by watching his movies, this superfan figures that his Nissan needed Liam plastered all over it.

They now have a Liam Nissan at their disposal, and this is just taking fandom to new heights. The joke is even more clever, and the owner must receive lots of attention when cruising down the streets. On the plus side, it also works as a great security measure because you can spot this vehicle a mile away if it gets stolen.

Pants Chair

When it’s that time to do some spring cleaning, most of us eventually get around to donating those old pairs of jeans we’ve stashed for years and no longer wear. Some still hold attachments to their denim pants and figure that they could make something out of them.

However, this chair isn’t exactly what we would go for, but it’s someone’s masterpiece. It looks bizarre, and a lot of work must have gone into it, only for the artist behind it to end up with what looks like the most uncomfortable chair.

Lamp Mixer

Kitchen mixers don’t come cheap, and that’s why we try our best to keep them in top condition. However, every electronic has a shelf life, and they stop working as they should or entirely. We imagine that is the story behind this project and the creator got a light bulb DIY idea.

They even put them up for sale, explaining that they are kitchen aids transformed into lamps. They work as desk lights to provide ambient lighting, but at $60 each, we wonder if it would have just been a better idea to get an actual desk lamp in the first place.

Doll Head Pots

Repurposed dolls are popular, and folks seem to find the craziest way to turn them into household items. Doll heads are popular for such projects, and in this case, someone figured that they make great planters. Tim Burton might smile at this, but we shudder at the sight.

Guests in this house might want to avoid taking a late-night stroll in the yard because these dolls can frighten the best of us under the veil of darkness. The neighbors must also give this homeowner a side-eye because of the terrifyingly eerie decor choice.

Corner Frames

Space is a huge issue for many people, and a little creativity goes a long way when decorating your space. This person has a problem when it comes to accessing enough room on the wall to hang their photos, and they figured that the corners could work well.

They got custom corner frames made, or they may have taken up the challenge personally. It does look like a lot of trouble to hang a couple of photos, and anyone who decided to go this route would have to be willing to ruin a few photos by folding them.

Custom One-Of-A-Kind Phone Case

Phone cases are popular DIY projects because, essentially, all you need to do is stick a bunch of stuff on the one you already have. At least that’s the idea we get from this custom one-of-a-kind case right here.

It looks like something a boomer worked on or a gift for one because we don’t see a millennial walking around with a bunch of buttons on their phone case. Perhaps if they ditched the chains and kept it simple, it would look decent, but most people don’t live by the less-is-more mantra.

Guitar Chair

Most of us often go overboard by filling our homes with items we like. This guy looks like a music lover, and maybe he has so many guitars that he could spare one for this project. Only that it doesn’t look like it’s meant to offer any function other than serving as a decoration.

Just picture trying to sit for a second on this chair, and that’s enough to convince you that you don’t need such a chair. Guitars also don’t come cheap, and this looks like a project that ruined a perfectly good musical instrument.

A Welcome Mat That Rocks

In essence, welcome mats usher guests into your house, and it also gives visitors the first impression of the occupants. This is a mat we actually like, and it tells us that the residents of this house rock!

When we think about the functionality, we have to rethink the rocky work of mosaic art. The vision is there, but maybe they are still looking for perfectly shaped stones to fill the big gaps. This could be the next big thing out there! The question is, is it complete or how come all those rocks are not evenly placed?

Electrifying Candle Holder

DIY candle holders also rank high on the list of home-made creations, and most people often do a decent job. We can’t say the same about this one, which makes use out of an extension lead.

The guy says that his girlfriend needed candle holders, and it means that he can no longer use his Xbox. It looks like this cable comes from a country where sockets are typically round in shape because it would have been a dangerous and difficult project to carve out such perfectly round spaces. This guy should’ve just bought his girlfriend candle holders to avoid this electrifying problem.

Lego Wear

Every parent goes through the phase when their kids no longer fancy their once beloved legos or outgrow them. Then there are adult lego fans who constantly try to make artworks out of the connecting pieces.

This guy figured that what he was missing in his life was a pair of transparent shorts stuffed with lego pieces. The first question is why he thought it was a great idea to get or make himself a pair of see-through shorts. Secondly, they don’t look comfortable or tailored to last, for that matter.

Supersize Candle

Some folks have supersized ambitions, and this person is a prime example. According to this yard sale listing, they have owned this supersize candle for one and a half decades, and they want to pass on the torch for $200.

The look of the candle is frightening enough, but why have they decided to sell it if it’s served them well for 15 years? It looks like something that should go to a wax museum or, at the very least, serve as a prop for a horror flick about wax monsters.

Stairway To Denim

Once again, we have someone who had several old pairs of jeans that they wanted to put to good use. Their stairway became the victim of a poorly executed re-upholstery job because, frankly speaking, it doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing.

These jeans also look like they were at the end of their lifespan, and maybe it would have been way better just to toss them out. They must attract dirt and other gunk pretty easily, and the cleanup can’t be easy either. Let’s just be glad that this isn’t our stairway.

Nail-Biting Manicure

Beauty trends keep evolving as quickly as most fads exist, but this is one we hope won’t stick. The lady behind this nail-biting manicure thought that a crochet look would be a great idea. Depending on what you fancy, this could be a cool manicure idea or a hard no.

It does have some Coraline vibes to it, and again we think this would work for Halloween. Just imagine trying to maintain this manicure. Maybe if it were in black, we would come around to it but still, let’s leave it for costume parties.

Jean Boots - Joots?

Next to dolls, we are starting to believe that people have an obsession with using denim for DIY projects. Well, we imagine all the pairs of jeans we have collected over the years need revival in some way, and these actually aren’t all that bad.

Transform a pair of jeans into boots, and you get a pair of joots. You still have to be a courageous soul to walk out of the house wearing a pair of these conversation starters. This is the kind of twist we expect from the upcoming third Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants movie.

Remote Holder

Next to keys, remote controls can drive you off the wall trying to locate them. This guy had it trying to find his remote control, and taping the gadget on a wooden stake worked for him. It just seems a bit extreme, and we are being generous with the word "bit" here.

You also wonder why he had to subject himself to the trouble of removing the remote control each time he wants to use it and taping it back after he is done. Perhaps he was simply trying to teach the family a lesson. There are couch organizers and remote holders that provide a better solution.

Quench Your Vision

Sprite promises to quench your thirst, but this DIY project tells us that it might give you some street cred. If you dare set out to transform the empty soda bottle into an accessory, consider fashioning it into a pair of eyeglasses.

They do look a bit tacky, but if more fine-tuning went into it, you might end up with a great-looking pair of gag sunglasses. The only challenge is standing by your creation and bravely wearing them outside the house. Perhaps for Halloween or any other costume party, they could work.

Stuffed Teddies

Most of us have a soft spot for teddies, and we can’t have enough of them around the house. They bring back memories of our childhood and let’s agree that they are ageless toys we can keep collecting well into adulthood.

That’s until we came across these teddies in jars, and it scared our inner children. The person behind this bizarre project proudly displays their collection of teddies stuffed in jars. Why would anyone do this, we ask, but again this isn’t even the craziest thing you’ll encounter on the Internet.

Truly A Dime

Pennies are more valuable than just their face value, and folks find various ways to make them even more valuable. Collectors have discovered that a pile of pennies they owned didn’t have much value, but there are always creative ways to make something out of the coins.

Take this vehicle owner, for instance, who gave his car a facelift using what looks like thousands of coins. It isn’t the best execution of such bodywork, and perhaps, if they polish and patch it up, the vehicle would look like a dime in every sense.

Miniature Side Mirror

Side mirrors are essential vehicle parts that help with the navigation process. They also cost a couple of hundred dollars to replace, and that’s why you’ll sometimes see a vehicle without one. Most states only require vehicles to have one exterior side mirror, and that’s why vehicle owners find creative ways to solve the problem of a missing side mirror.

This vehicle owner figured that a tiny mirror, the kind you find at your dentist’s office, would do the trick. We don’t know if it helps in any way, but it seems to have offered a temporary solution before the vehicle owner got around to replacing the side mirror.

A Sugary Conversation Piece

A glance at this custom art piece, and we wonder how many sodas went into making this creation. The next question; what is it exactly? Is it a wind chime, a chandelier, or just one of those conceptual art installations that don’t need an explanation?

They might have just picked up all those bottle tops around town, but we imagine that it serves as a conversation piece whenever they have company over. Otherwise, people who’ve long given up partaking in sugar in all its forms would frown upon this curious creation.

Corseted Cup

We must admit that this is one cute creation, only that we don’t see why a cup would need a corset. It might help you hold onto the cup even if it’s filled with some piping hot liquid, but it takes a brave soul to walk around the office with this corseted cup.

On the other hand, we applaud the craftsmanship that went into it and the excellent execution of the design. Perhaps any other fabric except for a floral print would have given it more character and make it something we wouldn’t mind using at the office.
