Snoop Dogg isn’t someone you would expect to drop a rainbow-colored children’s bop. But that is exactly what he did. His new track, "Love is Love," made waves on his animated YouTube series, “Doggyland,” a space where puppies sing lessons about kindness, friendship, and now, LGBTQ+ inclusion.

"What makes us special is that we're different different," the lyrics read. This comes after a pretty heated moment online.

Earlier this year, the 54-year-old rapper got called out for comments he made about same-sex relationships in a kids' movie. People weren’t happy. His take rubbed many the wrong way. But instead of brushing it off, he came back with something thoughtful, bold, and honestly, pretty catchy.

The "Love Is Love" Song and Collaboration

"Love is Love" dropped right on time for Spirit Day, a national day for standing up against bullying of LGBTQ+ youth. Snoop didn’t just throw his name on it. He voiced Bow Wizzle, the wise dog guide in “Doggyland,” and partnered with GLAAD to make sure the message landed right.

The song is simple but powerful. It hits that sweet spot where little kids can sing along, and adults can nod in agreement. It opens with bright beats and bouncy lyrics. Right away, you hear the line, "Our parents are different, no two are the same, but the one thing that is for certain is the love won’t change."

Snoop / IG / The goal of the song is to help kids learn that families look different, and all deserve love.

In the animated video, puppies live with all kinds of families. Some have two moms. Some have two dads. And others have one parent, or even grandparents. And no matter the setup, everyone gets love, hugs, and bedtime stories. It is all smiles and wagging tails, but the message hits deeper than just cute visuals.

Adding to the moment was Jeremy Beloate, who voices a puppy named Zippy in the episode. Jeremy is not new to Snoop fans. He was on Snoop’s team on “The Voice” back in 2024. He is also openly queer, and his presence in this episode gave the song more authenticity.

The Backlash That Sparked It All

So, why did this feel like such a big move? Because just months before, Snoop Dogg had said something that lit up social media for all the wrong reasons. On the podcast “It’s Giving,” he shared a story about taking his grandson to see Pixar’s “Lightyear.” A scene showed a same-sex couple, and his grandson had questions.

Snoop said the moment caught him off guard. "Papa Snoop? How can she have a baby with a woman? She is a woman!" he recalled. He admitted he felt weird, unsure how to answer. Then he added that it made him scared to go to the movies, because he didn’t want to be stuck answering questions he wasn’t ready for. That honesty didn’t land well with everyone.

Snoop / IG / Critics said Snoop was dismissive. Others called his comments harmful. Snoop’s fans expect openness, not confusion, especially when it comes to kids’ rights and inclusion.

It didn’t help that his words made it sound like LGBTQ+ storylines were something to avoid, instead of talking about.

Damage Control

Soon after, Snoop posted an apology. It wasn’t defensive, and it didn’t read like a PR stunt. He kept it short: "My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6-year-old … teach me how to learn, I’m not perfect." That post gave people something to think about. He didn’t double down. He asked to do better.

Still, words can only do so much. People wanted action. They wanted to see that he meant it. And that is where "Love is Love" comes in. It is a clear pivot. A public figure shifting gears and using his platform in a way that supports the very voices he was once unsure about.
