Award shows are an undeniably captivating part of pop culture. But when you mix a room full of celebrities with the risky concept of live television, you have a recipe for occasional disaster. While some award show moments are beautiful and inspirational, others are so painfully cringy that we just feel like turning the TV off!

From acceptance speeches going wrong to nasty accidental falls, all sorts of embarrassing situations have made it into our list. Award ceremonies can help some celebrities to become living legends. Yet, others are still suffering the consequences of their mortifying actions...

The La La Mess

The 2017 Academy Awards ceremony was marked by one of the most cringe-worthy Oscar-related moments ever. When Hollywood legends Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway went on stage to announce the Best Picture, everybody thought La La Land was the great winner.

The happy cast went to the stage and some speeches were even delivered. It was a dream come true... for a couple of minutes! Not long after the announcement, La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz was informed that there'd been a terrible mistake. To everybody's surprise, the real winner was Moonlight! The situation was quickly corrected, but the big moment of the 2017 Academy Awards was embarrassingly ruined.

Awkward Kristen Stewart Gets Even More Awkward

The Twilight craze marked the beginning of the 2010s and popularized Kristen Stewart as one of the world's most famous and promising actresses. However, Stewart was almost as famous for being awkward and incapable of showing emotion as she was for portraying Bella on the big screen.

In 2009, she justified such reputation by breaking her Golden Popcorn award seconds after receiving it. The MTV Movie Awards crowd was stunned and didn't know how to react to one of the awkwardest scenes ever captured on live television... Fortunately, Stewart decided to lighten up the mood with a couple of jokes about the whole situation.

Kanye Being Kanye Makes The VMAs Hard To Watch

It's arguably the most famous awkward moment in the history of live television. During the 2009 MTV VMA ceremony, an enraged Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech. He did so to let everybody know that he believed Beyoncé was the worthy winner of the Best Female Video award.

In the crowd, a baffled Beyoncé could do nothing but shake her head in disapproval. It was a career-shifting moment for Kanye, who revived the occasion in several songs. His 2016 song Famous, for instance, takes a hard stand against Swift. In it, Kanye claims that the infamous incident was actually responsible for making the Shake It Off singer famous.

Saved By The Bell

The 2020 Golden Globes awards were filled with meme-worthy occasions, but the award for Most Embarrassing Moment of the Night goes to Joaquin Phoenix's acceptance speech. The talented Joker star received a standing ovation from the crowd but almost ruined things completely with the inexplicable rambling that followed.

After a long discourse containing admissions of selfishness, a couple of words about the climate crisis, and a weird reference to cows ovaries, Phoenix was cut in half by the Golden Globes music. The baffled crowd felt like they were being saved by the bell. Still, some folks loved his speech.

Classic 1974 Oscar History

Back in the '70s, decades before the Internet became a thing, the Oscars ceremony was a major event that got every American glued to the screen. In 1974, the Oscars spectators got a chance of witnessing history when they saw a man invading the stage during a David Niven introduction.

The unwanted guest was not only showing up without an invitation, but he was also wearing no clothes. The incident is still considered to be one of the most notorious Oscar moments. As for the man, he was Robert Opel, an American photographer and art gallery owner.

A Slippery Perry Is Awkward To Watch

The 2008 MTV Latin America Awards were the stage of one of the most hard-to-watch live television moments ever. Performing her first number 1 hit single, I Kissed a Girl, a young Katy Perry decided to step out of a giant pink cake just for fun. She ended up regretting the decision forever.

The pink cake would have been a great idea if it wasn't for the fact that the entire stage got moist and slippery. Poor Katy Perry was almost unable to stand on her feet and slipped numerous times while performing. Luckily, the whole conundrum didn't hurt her career, and she continued to release highly-successful singles and records.

Reese Goes After Kim

During the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ceremony, an inspired Reese Witherspoon decided to use her speech to talk about how you don't need to shamelessly promote yourself to get famous. She criticized the reality-television culture and the strategic release of intimate tapes. It was seen as a personal attack to Kim Kardashian.

Nobody expected to see sweet Witherspoon attacking one of the world's most beloved celebrities, and the moment ended up feeling more awkward than inspirational. It's one thing to talk about issues like discrimination and women's empowerment. But if you're going with the personal attack routine, you better have the nerve for it!

Adele Dazeem Who?

At the stage of the 2014 Academy Awards ceremony, former Grease star John Travolta was at the center of one of the most hilarious Oscar moments ever registered. Tasked with the simple job of introducing American singer Idina Menzel, Travolta committed a laughable gaffe by calling a certain "Adele Dazeem" on stage.

Idina was cool about the whole situation, and the Travolta-Menzel pair even made a few onstage jokes about the mistake. But the awkward situation did show Travolta wasn't at all prepared for the moment. Maybe the Saturday Night Fever star suffers from dyslexia? That would explain a lot.

David Letterman's Disastrous Monologue

Comedian David Letterman is known as a host and a very good one at that! After all, he had his own successful late-night talk show for years. But during the 1995 Academy Awards, Letterman delivered such a cringy opening monologue that people couldn't believe he was an experienced entertainer.

He started with a far-from-funny joke, stating how weird he thought the names Oprah, Uma, and Keanu were. That night, numerous awkward moments followed. Letterman received a ton of negative reviews after the ceremony and his Oscar-hosting performance was so bad that it's still remembered in pop culture.

Adrien Brody Goes Way Out Of Line

In 2003, Adrien Brody was set to become one of the world's biggest actors. The youngest-ever winner of the Academy Award for Best Actor, he was a superstar under 30 who felt like he had the world in the palm of his hand. But for some reason, he though he could also have actress Halle Berry...

In a rushed decision that would be considered borderline harassment by today's press, Brody unexpectedly grabbed Berry and kissed her in the mouth! It all happened on the stage of the Oscars, on live television, and without any previous notice! We understand Brody was feeling super pumped that day, but he was way out of line!

Steve Harvey Steals The Show

Beauty pageants are not as popular today as they were in the past, but nobody will ever forget the 2015 edition of the Miss Universe pageant. The highlight wasn't the winner or even the contestants, but a crass mistake from the host.

The hardworking Steve Harvey was having what felt like another regular day at the "office". But when it came to announcing the winner, he mistook the name of the runner-up (Miss Colombia) with the name of the winner (Miss Philippines). He quickly tried to make things right, but it was too late. In a hard-to-watch TV moment, the winning tiara was literally removed from Miss Colombia's head to be given to the real winner.

The Trophy-Wife Routine

Actress Sofia Vergara is as known for her role as Modern Family's Gloria as she is for her curvaceous body. But during the 2014 Emmys, someone had the terrible idea of getting Vergara on the top of a rotating pedestal. The point? Admiring Vergara's spotless body from a rotating 360º perspective.

The idea was not only slightly rude and offensive to women overall, but it was also a terrible moment on television. Vergara played her usual trophy-wife routine, which has granted her so much success in Modern Family. However, the viewers were left with the impression they were watching something utterly creepy and awkward.

The 2015 SAG Awards Get Painfully Awkward

It happened on the red carpet of the 2015 SAG Awards ceremony. A poorly prepared interviewer approached actress Rashida Jones and asked her about her "nice tan". Here's the problem: Rashida is actually the daughter of Quincy Jones and partly African American...

The dumbfounded Parks & Recreation actress tried her best to save the situation by saying she was "ethnic", but it was too late. The cringy moment was forever registered on camera, and it was so painful to watch that some people have surely turned away from their TVs at that moment.

Nicole Kidman's Clap Becomes A Meme

Clapping seems like an easy enough job, but it can sometimes end up being harder than it seems. Take Australian actress Nicole Kidman. During the Oscars, she broke the Internet by clapping in one of the weirdest ways possible.

Not only did she avoid the contact between her two hands (which is supposed to be the point of clapping), but she also got her hands in a very unusual shape. It kind of reminds us of how a seal would clap. The moment was captured on camera, and Kidman's weird clap became an overnight meme sensation online.

Smiling For The Camera

Besides being one of the Internet's favorite personalities, Chrissy Teigen is the proud wife of American singer John Legend. During the 2015 Golden Globes, she was so moved by the performance of her husband that she ended up sobbing and crying.

But when the camera started to focus on her, she decided to try to hide her emotions and exhibit one of the awkwardest smiles of live television history! Her unique facial expression became an overnight meme sensation, contributing to Teigen's already legendary online status. She kind of looked like she was trying to hold a very smelly fart.

Jennifer's Hard-To-Land Joke

In the 2013 Golden Globe award ceremony, an excited Jennifer Lawrence went on stage to receive her very first prize. She was particularly happy about beating the respectable competition, which included legendary actress Meryl Streep. So, she started her speech with an unscripted First Wives Club reference by saying "I beat Meryl".

Needless to say, Jennifer's words were taken out of context, and some Meryl Streep fans were not happy about it. Later, the Hunger Games actress responded to the whole polemic by saying it was "never a good idea" to improvise on live television. We agree!

Not In The Way You Dream Of

Getting an Academy Award for Best Actor is the lifelong dream of every drama student and performer. But sometimes, the moment of your dreams can be tainted by a nightmarish accident. Actor Rami Malek won the prize for portraying Freddy Mercury beautifully but ended up embarrassing himself by falling off the stage.

The accident caused a commotion and even alarmed the ceremony's paramedics. It was an utterly awkward moment, but we feel bad about Malek. We hope that it doesn't get in the way of what's important: celebrating the skills of great actors like himself.

Bradley Cooper's Stone-Cold Heart

When you're a famous actor, people expect you to react accordingly to the situation and show a bit of empathy every now and then. But during the 2020 Academy Awards ceremony, Bradley Cooper seemed to forget all about his basic duties as a public figure.

Interviewer Giuliana Rancic opened up her heart when speaking about the actor's work and how much it had contributed to strengthening the relationship she had with her husband. On the other side of the camera, a sad-eyed Bradley Cooper replied quite dryly and seemed totally unmoved by Rancic's emotional remarks. It was quite the cringy moment.

Travolta Gives Scarlett Johansson A Hard Time

It seems like John Travolta has evolved from a talented actor/singer/dancer to a remarkable expert of awkwardness. Only one year after his "Adele Dazeem" fail, the Grease star was invited to the 2015 Oscars ceremony and delivered another painfully cringy and hard-to-watch TV moment.

Standing next to a beautiful woman like Scarlett Johansson is not an excuse to creepily grab her and kiss her in the cheek for no particular reason. But that's exactly what Travolta did. Poor Scarlett tried her best not to lose her cool on stage and make the whole situation worse. Still, her eyes are letting her true feelings show.

To Watch or Not to Watch

Actresses Melanie Griffith and Dakota Johnson are one of the world's most famous mom-daughter duos. However, they were at the center of a very cringy red carpet moment during the 2015 Academy Awards. When the interviewer asked Griffith if she had seen 50 Shades of Grey, she answered no, much to Dakota's desperation.

In what felt like the public reprise of a very lively mom-daughter fight, Dakota ended the discussion with an annoyed "Alright, you don't have to see it!". To be fair, we do get why Griffith wouldn't want to watch her daughter's performance in 50 Shades of Grey. The movie gets pretty... intense.

J-Lo Almost Got K.O.

Jennifer Lopez is a woman of many talents, which include a great ability to sing and dance. But in the 2009 American Music Awards, her live performance of the song Louboutins almost ended in tragedy.

A daring J-Lo decided to take a big risk by preparing an elaborated choreography. It featured a set of muscular dancers, lots of acrobatic moments, and a boxing theme. All was going according to plan—until an untimely jump resulted in Lopez landing hard on her posterior. She got up half-a-second later. But if you pause a video of the performance at the exact moment of the landing, you can see the pain in J-Lo's eyes...

Adele's Grammy Breaks Like Glass

When Adele was first introduced in the music scene as a 19-year-old, people were baffled by her talent. She had incredible songwriting abilities and an unmatched vocal range. Since then, she's been collecting every possible accolade she can, including 15 Grammys and 1 Academy Award.

In 2017, Adele decided to break her Grammy for Album of the Year in half. She shared it with Beyoncé, who released the album Lemonade that same year. The gesture wasn't awkward. However, spectators found it weird that the Grammy was easily split in half. The explanation? It was a prop. Real Grammys are made of Grammium, a special type of electroplated 24k gold.

Jon Hamm's Bizarre Victory Lap

In the 2015 Emmys ceremony, the TV series Mad Men was nominated for 6 different categories. The show's only award, however, went to Jon Hamm. He won the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and that should've been enough to make a few headlines. However, Hamm decided to get all of the attention by... crawling up to the stage?

Weirdly, Hamm decided that walking was not the most efficient way to get up on stage. Later, he admitted that even he was puzzled by what he'd decided to do. It was an utterly bizarre TV moment, and one of the awkwardest things that ever happened at the Emmys.

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

During the 2015 Brit Awards, Madonna took the main stage and performed wearing a giant superhero cape. The key aspect of the performance was supposed to be the moment in which the dancer's crew removed the cape from Madonna. But not all went as expected.

Somehow, the cape got stuck, and Madonna ended up being pulled to the ground. It was an awkward and honestly dangerous fall that ruined her performance completely... It happens to the best! There's no point in criticizing Madonna for what was nothing but an accident. Yet, there's nothing wrong about laughing at it either. After all, live television falls are always fun to watch!

That's Why You Always Practice Your Happy Loser Face

If you're a country music fan, then you know how important the Country Music Awards are for the industry. Country singer Faith Hill surely makes a big deal out of the ceremony, and she's not even able to contain herself when facing defeat...

After losing to her rival singer Carrie Underwood, an on-camera Hill was unable to hide her anger. She waved her arms into the air and even screamed an audible "What!", much to the attendant's desperation. To avoid unbearably awkward moments like these, awards ceremony nominees should always practice their happy loser face before leaving home...

One Too Many Drinks

American actor Johnny Depp was great at portraying the drunken and adventurous Disney pirate Jack Sparrow. But mimicking Sparrow's reckless behaviors in real life is probably not the best course of action for a Hollywood A-lister.

During the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards, a very tipsy Johnny Depp took the stage to introduce the documentary Supermensch. Needless to say, the whole moment became more about how weird drunken Depp's posture was, and less about the Netflix doc about Shep Gordon. Since then, Johnny Depp's career has been through a lot of ups and downs...

Comedic Genius

Comedy actors make a living out of laughs, but they're not always successful in their attempts at being funny. In the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, Will Ferrell was surprised by a very tipsy Aubrey Plaza after receiving the "Comedic Genius" award. The young Parks & Recreation actress stormed on stage and tried to steal the award away from Ferrell.

At first, it seemed like a cleverly staged joke, but it wasn't anything like that! After the moment of untimely inspiration, an admittedly drunken Plaza ended up being kicked out of the ceremony. That was awkward—like Plaza herself.

The Tribute That Wasn't

Madonna's career is filled with amazing pop songs, great performances, and visionary video clips. But when she was asked to pay a tribute to Aretha Franklin during the MTV VMAs ceremony, she showed a little bit too much love for herself. She was supposed to honor the late Queen of Soul, but she only talked about her own personal journey.

In a very cringy speech, Madonna turned an Aretha Franklin tribute into a Madonna-only moment and the Internet reacted quite negatively. Later, she said the whole moment was not even supposed to be an Aretha Franklin tribute, much to everyone's confusion.

Get A Room!

Believable intimacy is part of what makes a great romantic movie work, like the highly-praised A Star Is Born. But when the film's stars Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga took it to the stage, their chemistry was so palpable that everybody in the room ended up feeling awkward.

They sang a song together and showed a little bit too much affection for one another. Maybe they were just being great actors, but the whole deal felt way too real not to be true. To add up to the mix, Cooper and Gaga have both gone through break-ups shortly before or after the performance.

Natalie Portman States Her Point

When actress Natalie Portman joined director Ron Howard to introduce the Oscar for Best Director, she made sure to call out what she thought of as being a great injustice. In a clearly unscripted moment, she introduced the "all-male nominees" for the prize, raising awareness to the fact few women are given a directing opportunity in Hollywood.

The moment was awkward to some of the men in the room, but we still have to praise Portman's braveness. She acknowledged a real Hollywood problem, and we hope her actions have helped more female directors to get a job.

James Franco Shares The Spotlight... Then Steals It Away

The Room is a movie so poorly made that it gained a decade-lasting cult following. It was also in the origin of The Disaster Artist, a film inspired in the life of Tommy Wiseau, the star of The Room. James Franco bagged a Golden Globe for Best Actor because of this movie.

During the acceptance speech, nice-guy Franco invited Wiseau on stage. But when Wiseau tried to grab the mic, not-so-nice-guy Franco pulled him away and denied him the chance to talk. The awkward situation was as confusing as cringe-inducing. Actually, the moment ended up being almost as bad as any scene from The Room.

Beyoncé's Embarrassed By A Crazy Backing Track

In 2013, Beyoncé was still trying to make a name for herself as a solo artist after years of success performing with Destiny's Child. For the MTV Europe Music Awards, the Single Ladies singer took the stage alongside rapper Sean Paul to deliver a spotless performance.

Everything was going according to plan—until the very end. An inexplicable technical difficulty caused the backing track to loop over and over, much to everyone's embarrassment. Beyoncé did her best by waving at the crowd and quickly running off stage. Fortunately, it was just a small misstep in Beyoncé's remarkable performing career.

Angelina Jolie Gets Way Too Close To Her Brother

In 2000, American actress Angelina Jolie was at the top of the world. She was not only considered to be one of the most beautiful women alive, but she was also about to receive the Oscar for Best Actress. At the time of the ceremony, she was single and accompanied by her brother, actor/producer James Haven Voight.

So far, so good. But, for some mysterious reason, Jolie decided to present James with a big kiss on the lips during the red carpet ceremony. Later, in her acceptance speech, she went as far as saying she was "in love" with her brother... Naturally, fans got confused about it! For a while, everybody in Hollywood believed Jolie was having a very awkward love affair with her brother.

And The Hosts Are...

When the Academy Awards announced their 2011 ceremony would count with actors James Franco and Anne Hathaway in the role of hosts, many people felt it was a strange decision. Franco and Hathaway are two of the world's most beloved actors, but could they pull it off in the role of masters of ceremonies?

The answer is no, they can't. The two actors did terrible and turned the 2011 Oscars into one of the awkwardest live television experiences ever. They showed poor chemistry and laughed at some horrible jokes. Franco was even accused of being sleepy and sloppy throughout the whole ceremony!

It Starts With An "R"

During the 2014 Grammy Awards ceremony, Taylor Swift's record Red was a nominee for Album of the Year. Running against the highly-praised Daft Punk record Random Access Memories, Swift's chances of winning were very slim.

When the winner was about to be announced, the fact it started with an "R" made Swift jump on her chair out of excitement. For a split second, she thought she was the big winner. But she wasn't. Predictably, the Grammy went to Daft Punk, and Swift's awkward contained excitement was forever registered on camera.

The Minaj-Cyrus Feud Heats Up

In 2015, musicians Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus weren't exactly best friends. After publicly referring to Minaj as "too kind", Cyrus was expecting a response from the rapper who brought us Anaconda. In the MTV VMA's, the much-awaited reply finally arrived.

During her award acceptance speech, Minaj made sure to point out her superiority by asking "Miley, what's good?". Nothing settles a celebrity feud like an award ceremony, but the moment ended up feeling a little bit awkward. Being humble and respectful when you're at your best beats making the most out of a good situation every single time.

Joe Jonas Trips On Broken Glass

2007. The Jonas Brothers were the biggest teen band on the planet, and they were preparing to make an impactful performance at the American Music Awards ceremony. The stage props were epic. Each of the 3 Jonas Brothers would step through a panel of broken glass at the beginning of the performance like a true rock star.

It could've been a legendary intro if it wasn't for poor Joe Jonas. He tripped in the structure, which was holding the broken glass, and fell off awkwardly right at the beginning of the show. The entire performance fell quite dry after that.

Jennifer Lawrence Avoids Awkwardness Like A Rockstar

In 2013, Jennifer Lawrence received the Oscar for Best Actress after her great Silver Linings Playbook performance. She tripped on her long-tailed dress while trying to get up on stage. At that moment, many feared that her fall would make more headlines than her Oscar victory.

The accidental trip did become famous, but not for its awkwardness. Lawrence avoided embarrassment like a champ by simply recognizing her mistake. She ended up getting a standing ovation from the crowd and proved that people will always relate to you if you're OK with laughing at yourself.

Leonardo DiCaprio Gets In The Way

During the 2016 Golden Globe awards ceremony, singer-turned-actress Lady Gaga stepped on stage to receive an award for her performance in American Horror Story. But on the way to the stage, Gaga had some trouble avoiding the arm of a way-too-relaxed Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Revenant actor quickly realized he was on the way and corrected his posture. But his facial expression was so overstated that the Internet decided to make the most out of the moment. The awkward split second became the material of countless memes and online jokes. That's what happens when a movie star like DiCaprio decides to go to a television award show!

Does He Really Need To Be There?

Rappers Cardi B and Offset are both known for two things: rhyming on top of trap beats and making headlines with their on-and-off rocky relationship. During the 2019 Grammys, Cardi B was awarded the prize for Best Rap Album. A well-deserved distinction, but one that was in the origin of a quite cringy moment.

For some unknown reason, Offset decided to follow Cardi B to the stage and stand right next to her while she delivered her acceptance speech. Was he worried about her safety, or just trying to force his way into the moment? Either way, it was weird to watch!

Shameless Self-Promotion

Ryan Seacrest has been under a lot of heat after being caught on live television promoting his clothing line numerous times. The E! host is supposed to be a red carpet reporter, but he has decided to enjoy his airtime to do a little bit of shameless self-promotion.

There's nothing wrong with talking about something that inspires you, like your suit line. However, advertising your products on live television when your job is to interview celebrities has to be considered unprofessional. Seacrest has probably learned something out of the experience since he was heavily criticized in the aftermath.

Giving The Award To The Wrong Taylor Swift

In the unpredictable world of award ceremonies, two things are guaranteed. John Travolta will be at the center of a very cringy moment, and Taylor Swift will probably suffer the consequences. In the 2019 MTV VMAs, poor Swift was once again inadvertently snubbed after Travolta mistakenly awarded one of her impersonators with an award.

We do admit former RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Josh Green pulls off a very convincing Taylor Swift imitation. Yet, we cannot stop thinking that the whole situation could've been avoided if Travolta was out of the picture. The real mystery is: Why is he still getting invited to award ceremonies?

Lil Mama Gets Carried Away

It's awkward enough to show up to a party you were not invited to. But what about unintentionally crashing a concert? American rapper Lil Mama took things way too far during the 2009 MTV VMAs. She inadvertently joined performers Jay-Z and Alicia Keys on stage during their performance.

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys were almost done with delivering a solid rendition of their hit song Empire State of Mind when they were surprised by Lil Mama. She just decided to improvise and get up on stage! Afterwards, Jay-Z was very mad about it and Lil Mama was forced to apologize.

Why We Love Ricky Gervais

A list of awkward and cringy award ceremony moments wouldn't be complete without a reference to Ricky Gervais. As a host, he's both hilarious and uncomfortable. He uses humor to make fun of the celebrities in the crowd in a roast-like manner. Needless to say, the attending movie stars and directors are afraid to death of becoming Gervais' next punchline...

In the 2020 Golden Globes ceremony, Gervais' opening monologue caused a lot of stress to Tom Hanks. The star of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood was so expressive during Gervais' speech that his face became an overnight meme sensation.

Way Too Foreign For Haddish

In the 2018 MTV VMAs, comedians Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish were tasked with introducing one of the awards. It seemed like an easy enough job for two experienced performers like Hart and Haddish. Unluckily, the winner happened to be the Cuban-born singer Camila Cabello.

Trying her best, or not, Haddish ended up saying Cabello's name wrong. It was another embarrassing VMA moment and one that was particularly cringy for the Latin and Hispanic viewership. We get Haddish style is a lot about improvising. However, she could've avoided the whole embarrassment by learning how to say the name of the nominees correctly before going on stage...

Katy Perry's Still Getting Used To Her Brand-New Wings

The Met Gala is the best moment to go all-in with your award-show attire. By deciding to show up with a daring set of angel-like wings, that's exactly what American singer Katy Perry did in 2018,. The press loved it, and she looked surprisingly good. However, it took her a while to get used to the brand-new wings.

In the red carpet, she awkwardly knocked out one of her assistants without even noticing. It's surely not easy to get around while looking like a real-life angel. Still, that's not an excuse to accidentally smack your staff in the face!

The Invisible Staff

The Emmy Awards ceremony is a major television production. As spectators, we get to see the show, but we (almost) always miss the backstage frenzy that allows it to run smoothly. In 2013, Neil Patrick Harris was the ceremony's host when an intrusive staff member appeared on the background.

As any good host would do, Patrick Harris tried to awkwardly slide away from the staff member to keep the glamour of the Emmys alive. Naturally, the audience was smart enough to recognize the mishap. It would've probably been less cringy if Harris acknowledged the mistake and made 1 or 2 jokes about it.

Naomi Watts Almost Broke Her Face

In the 2015 SAG Awards, the highly-regarded cult movie Birdman was getting most of the attention. But when the whole cast took the stage to receive one of the awards, a near-accident involving Emma Stone and Naomi Watts was suddenly at the center of it all.

Poor Watts tripped on Stone's long-tailed suit-inspired dress and almost fell violently to the ground. It could've been a real nasty fall, but she was luckily able to stay on her feet, much to the entire crowd's relief. Live television does allow for some breathtaking moments!

A Salad-Lover, Nick Jonas Breaks The Internet...

For the second Jonas Brothers appearance in this list, we need to go back to the 2020 Grammy Awards. After Joe Jonas' American Music Awards accident, this time it was Nick's turn to get all of the attention. Why?

Unknowingly, the pop-rock star appeared on stage with a bit of lettuce in his teeth. It was surely embarrassing, but the mishap was received positively all over Social Media. After all, many people related to the situation. We've all been there once or twice before... Eating salad is very healthy and delicious, but there's surely a "dark side" to it.

A Prize Worth A Thousand Years

The 2002 VMA Awards were marked by a cringe-worthy moment involving the late pop star Michael Jackson. In a segment introduced by Britney Spears, Jackson was supposedly receiving a special birthday distinction. But Spears referred to Jackson as the "artist of the millennium" during her introduction, which led to some confusion.

Believing he was receiving the actual award for Artist of the Millennium, MJ delivered a passionate but far from accurate speech. Understandably, things got awkward very fast, but no one was brave enough to interrupt Jackson's speech. Gladly so, because he deserved that award!
