Artists can be a temperamental bunch. Therefore, we’re rarely surprised when feuds between them become the topic of celebrity news. However, things can become much more extreme when artists enrage studio executives. The results are more transcendental than just a simple Twitter fight, these artists can find themselves out of a job if too many studios decide they’re not worth the drama. While some stars are too big to be eclipsed by studios refusing to work with them, others have become ghosts of times past, and here’s the reason why.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez is one of the most famous pop divas in the world. Since her days in the movie, Selena her fame and success have hardly decreased, especially as a singer. However, Lopez has had a difficult time continuing her work on the big screen. After a series of films that were far from being blockbusters, studios started to close their doors on her.

Interestingly, it wasn’t because she wasn’t worth the investment. Jennifer’s demands while on set and reported diva-like behavior were the true reasons people chose not to work with her. Despite this, she released a new film, Hustlers,  in 2019.

Josh Duhamel

Josh Duhamel seems like a very likable guy. From his days in Las Vegas, he won the hearts of many fans, and he became a wanted leading man. However, his success in Hollywood was very short-lived. Allegedly, Duhamel has quite the temper, and this caused him to become involved in arguments with producers and directors.

Furthermore, some reports have stated that he treated Fergie in a very controlling way. Eventually, even his relationship with his wife deteriorated and they filed for divorce. The end of their marriage was finalized in November 2019.

Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase has always had a reputation for being very difficult to work with. He can be quite aggressive and his off-color jokes often cause other castmates to feel uncomfortable. Chase had become a staple on Saturday Night Live, but his antics caused the managers of the show to fire him.

He allegedly got into feuds even with the nicest of people, like Will Ferrell. Some of his colleagues on the show, Community explained how Chase was like a kind of deranged grandpa whose mental health wasn’t entirely rock solid.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow was once upon a time a Hollywood darling. Her beauty, talent, and grace had people talking about how amazing she was. However, after she won an Academy Award for Shakespeare In Love, the initial barrage of amazing roles offered to her decreased.

According to numerous sources, Gwyneth is far from friendly to her co-workers, which caused awkward situations. Allegedly, she tried to avoid Scarlett Johansson at all times during the filming of The Avengers franchise, with no real reason to justify this behavior. Perhaps it would be best for her to focus on her company, Goop, which has increased the size of her bank account by several million.

Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone’s fame skyrocketed during the ‘80s and ‘90s. She had numerous iconic roles, including the film Basic Instinct. Other roles such as Casino and Total Recall also caused her to become very popular with the audience. However, rumor has it that Sharon wanted to pursue a different path, looking for more meaningful roles.

Unfortunately, her filters for scripts must have become terribly strict as she always rejected the proposals made to her. Eventually, people just stopped sending her offers as the camera and the audience fell in love with the next big thing.

January Jones

Mad Men was a show with an exquisite production that also marvelously portrayed a historical time. January Jones was lucky enough to land one of the main roles on the show, which catapulted her to fame. However, she was allegedly very cold to people on set, and some of her co-stars stated that she wasn’t as nice as the rest of the actors.

This was probably one of the reasons why people have rarely heard from her ever since. Despite this, it might simply be that her anxiety about giving a great performance causes her to be a little standoffish, right?

Mischa Barton

As it tends to happen when people reach fame way too young, Mischa Barton’s early success cost her dearly. She had been a child actress before landing the lead on the show, The O.C. The show was a complete success, and teenagers over the world identified themselves with her angsty character.

However, Mischa’s real-life became almost as turbulent as that of her character on the show. Her reported diva behavior and issues with drugs caused executives to cut their losses and close their doors almost permanently when it comes to her.

Alec Baldwin

The entire world seems to have a complicated relationship with Alec Baldwin. He’s considered a great actor, but his temper more often than not gets the best of him. This has caused him to become involved in numerous feuds, which include his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, fellow actors, studio executives, and even a professional photographer.

This last instance was the alleged reason that got him fired from his job on MSNBC. Despite this, Alec continues to find producers that will work with him. In the past few years, he has been involved in numerous projects including the Will & Grace revival.

Christian Bale

Christian Bale is so talented that even his erratic behavior on set can’t keep him from getting roles. That said, rumor has it that more than one studio prefers to not deal with the former star of Batman, The Prestige, and The Machinist. It has come to light that Bale’s intensity when it comes to his roles often permeates how he treats people on set.

According to some reports, Bale furiously yelled at the director of photography during the filming of Terminator Salvation. Perhaps he should visit a psychologist to try and tackle those anger issues. After all, no one wants to see such a great actor be permanently blacklisted.

Shannen Doherty

Shannen Doherty is well-known for being a very difficult person to work with. Since she was a young woman on the set of Beverly Hills: 90210, reports of her entitled behavior made it to all the news outlets. This continued when she landed one of the lead roles on the famous show, Charmed.

Her constant fights with the producers caused her to be fired from the show, where they simply killed her off. According to some rumors, her battle with breast cancer brought her closer to former co-stars such as Alyssa Milano.

Cybill Shepherd

One day Cybill Shepherd is making appearances on movies and TV shows, and the next, she's already gone. Not entirely gone, but gone from A-list projects that would have her directly under Hollywood’s spotlight. While there have been only a couple of years in which she hasn’t had a project, most of these resumed to guest appearances on established shows.

Allegedly, she became too much of a diva and working with her became increasingly difficult. Furthermore, she was extremely busy and unavailable after giving birth to twins, which is more than understandable.

Val Kilmer

Val Kilmer rose to fame back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and he seemed to be the next big Hollywood name. His roles in films such as Batman Forever, The Prince of Egypt, and Top Gun caused him to become one of the most profitable actors.

In the beginning, studios would fight each other to hire him given how much money his movies brought in. However, Kilmer had serious anger issues, which became very obvious on set. Directors and producers became wary of him, and eventually, studios decided it was not worth it. He became a liability, which caused them to let him go.

Mel Gibson

We’re starting to see a pattern here. Anger seems to be the reason behind many of these artists’ issues with studios and executives. Mel Gibson was no exception to this. Allegedly, he would often go on insulting rants, which reached a limit when some of these became public after a phone call was recorded.

Gibson’s comments caused him to become "radioactive" for anyone that dared work with him. After a 5-year hiatus, Gibson has been landing more roles recently. There have been few personal scandals and, apparently, he might have learned his lesson.

Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn doesn’t really have a reputation for having a bad temper. He simply is not as talented as people thought, at least according to casting directors. Vince enjoyed great success with movies such as The Wedding Crashers and The Break-Up. However, he was unable to transcend from a one-dimensional type of comedy, and his attempt at drama was a total failure.

Showrunners decided that there was little they could do with someone that only had one character to offer, and they stopped sending him offers or considering him for projects. Maybe it’s time for him to go back to drama school and get an acting education.

John Travolta

John Travolta is one of the biggest Hollywood stars. Since his fame skyrocketed on Grease, he has become a well-known name, with numerous successful projects. However, there have also been numerous unsuccessful projects, which causes executives to get nervous when it comes to casting him in a film.

This is because it’s very uncertain how the movie will do when Travolta is in the mix. Despite this, he continues to be one of the biggest names in the industry, and he doesn’t seem to be suffering. In his free time, he goes and flies his private plane, which is one of his favorite hobbies.

Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is one of the most beloved comedy actors. He has a long list of successful films, including Liar Liar, The Mask, and Bruce Almighty. He has also delved into drama, which has had mixed results. This duality has him on the same spot as Travolta since Carrey is not considered a sure thing when casting people for a project.

However, it’s uncertain how open he would be to going back to the big screen. Carrey has become a full-time artist, developing comics and showing his work in exhibitions that have had great success. With his impressive net worth of $150 million, it is not like he needs a job.

Sean Young

Director Oliver Stone was allegedly very close to simply firing Sean Young in the middle of shooting Wall Street. The reason why was Young’s horrific behavior on set. According to numerous sources, she was more than a diva, she acted like a bully.

Both the cast and the crew reportedly feared her, and no paycheck was sufficient to put up with her behavior. After this film, Young had to be happy with smaller roles, and she even spent time on a soap opera. She has been making bigger appearances, including her performance in Blade Runner: 2049.

Isaiah Washington

Isaiah Washington showed he had a lot to learn on the set of Grey’s Anatomy. His confrontation with a fellow co-star in which Isaiah was terribly insulting cost him his role on the show and his reputation. While not entirely jobless, many doors were closed to him almost permanently. Isaiah eventually apologized.

Furthermore, he was brought back on the show years later as a guest star, which is a good way to promote redemption and forgiveness. After all, no one is perfect. Since then, Isaiah has had recurrent roles in shows such as The 100, and he’s currently working on numerous projects.

Shenae Grimes

Shenae Grimes started acting at a very young age. By the time she landed her role on 90210, she should have learned all she needed to know about Hollywood politics. Apparently, she hadn’t, and she started to start the textbook behavior of a diva.

As one of the leads, she allegedly stated that everyone else was there simply for backup. This caused her to be on the bad list of the producers of the show. She had a series of minor roles after the show ended until she got a steady role on The Detail, which was canceled after just one season.

Madonna

Madonna is one of the greatest pop stars to have ever lived. Furthermore, she has shown that a good workout routine can stave off aging, as she continues to look amazing now that she’s 61. However, Madonna is used to doing things her way when it comes to her albums and tours.

Therefore, problems quickly ensued when she tried to pursue an acting career. Directors like to direct, and Madonna allegedly wasn’t too excited about having to follow directions. Consequently, her films were not well-received by the critics, and studios decided to simply stop casting her.

Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe has had a very successful Hollywood career. As it tends to happen, offers for amazing projects flooded him after he won an Academy Award for his film, Gladiator. Russell followed up with A Brilliant Mind, for which he was nominated once again.

He showed the struggle of a schizophrenic genius, and it was an amazing performance. His talent is indisputable; however, so much recognition might have gone to his head. According to some reports, Russell stated that he was the greatest actor in the world. He saw a decrease in the quality of roles offered, but he has continued to have a prolific career.

Edward Norton

Edward Norton’s problem might involve some trust issues that make him a very difficult person to work with. He showed his great talent in films such as Fight Club and American History X, where he got rave reviews from critics and the love of the audience. Unfortunately, Norton needs to control the ultimate result to an extreme extent.

Allegedly, he got the final edit of American History X, something that wasn’t his duty whatsoever. This caused him to be labeled as problematic, which is allegedly why he has had less prominent roles in the past few years. While he surely has a hefty savings account, his ego might be hurting.

Lacey Chabert

Lacey Chabert has never been reported to have a temper or anything like that. However, after the huge success of Mean Girls, people have had trouble separating her from her air-headed character in the film. Plus, she has been in a long stream of Hallmark movies, which are not necessarily the most demanding roles.

However, this allows her to spend time with her family and getting some rest after her first pregnancy, which was quickly followed by a second addition to the family. All in all, she might be quite content after all.

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson reached an all-time high when he played the role of Edward Cullen in the films adapted from the Twilight books. Despite his smashing success, he has gone on to pursue more indie projects that allow him to explore his creativity.

This bold move by the actor was allegedly not well received by studio executives, who were planning on making him the next Hollywood heartthrob. Despite this, he has made it back to more mainstream projects, starting with him being the new Batman, something that has created a lot of expectations.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones proved that she could do it all in the film, Chicago. She danced, acted, and sang, and yet for some reason, she has had very few roles in the past few years. Many believe this is due to Catherine’s admission of suffering from bipolar disorder.

It’s very unfortunate that having this condition has allegedly caused studios to avoid Catherine when in reality, she is a spectacular actress. Catherine has stated that she also believes the fact that she’s older now plays a role in this, as age is a special deterrent when it comes to women in Hollywood.

Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz was the queen of romantic comedies back in the ‘90s. Her charming smile and great talent turned her into a box office success. However, after she found love with Benji Madden, she decided she had had enough of Hollywood to last her a lifetime.

Therefore, she decided to retire early, and dedicate her time to her marriage and the things she enjoys doing. She released a book, and in January 2020 she became a mom at 47. Cameron and Benji welcomed their girl, Raddix, through surrogacy. While Diaz’s step back from the studios was voluntary, it’s unlikely she’ll be coming back.

Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy is one of the most successful comedy actors in the history of the film industry. Films such as Coming to America, Dr. Dolittle, and Daddy’s Daycare made him a staple in comedy films, and he became beloved by the public. The result was that she received fewer opportunities as the years went by. However, 2020 seems to be looking up for Hilary. Her new film, The Hunt will be released in March, and she’s working on a new show with the streaming TV platform, Netflix.

Taylor Lautner

Taylor Lautner became a known face after his role in the film Sharkboy and Lava Girl. However, he showed his time spent at the gym paid off during many of his scenes in the Twilight franchise films. The huge success of the saga brought him immense fame and popularity, something that might have risen his expectations a bit too much.

Rumor has it that Taylor expected absurdly high paychecks when talks about new projects came in. In consequence, studios simply decided not to hire him anymore. According to many, he wasn’t worth what he was asking for.

Brendan Fraser

Brendan Fraser became one of the most famous faces on Earth after the release of The Mummy. The action film was a huge success, and people were eagerly awaiting the sequels, where Brendan appeared once more. However, that was basically it for him.

Although he participated in other films such as Extraordinary Measures and Furry Vengeance, these were huge failures. Brendan’s choice of projects was far from the best, and this led him to be considered a liability for any studio. Marlon Brando

Marlon Brando was one of the most talented Hollywood actors. His performance in The Godfather earned him people’s love and the appreciation of the critics. However, his long career ended on a slightly sour note, at least for the people working with him.

Mariah Carey is the ultimate pop diva. The world knows it, and she’s proud of it. This has caused people to have difficulty working with her. When she was a judge on American Idol, the set became a difficult place to work at.

Fellow artist, Nicki Minaj, was open about how much she struggled to work with Mariah. So much so, that one of their fights was even caught on camera. While this might have been good for ratings, it’s likely that Mariah will stick to the stage, where she can always be the center of attention.

Jennifer Aniston

While the world continues to consider Jennifer Aniston as one of the most likable actresses ever, reports tell a different story. Apparently, Jen could become a bit diva-like when it came to her hair! It’s not truly surprising considering her style during the show Friends heavily influenced Americans’ hairstyles while the show ran.

Therefore, Jen sometimes would ask for her hairdresser to travel with her. This came from the studios’ pockets, which didn’t make them very happy. Despite this, Jen is worth that and more as she showed with her most recent performance on The Morning Show. 

Teri Hatcher

Teri Hatcher has allegedly won the enmity of numerous colleagues, which makes her a difficult person to hire. Although she reached the highest point in her career on the show, Desperate Housewives, reports of internal feuds often placed her at the center of the conflict.

According to some sources, Hatcher’s attitude left much to be desired, which constantly landed the entire cast on negative celebrity news. Allegedly, her co-stars would try to avoid Hatcher as much as possible whenever they were on set, and they preferred not to be seen with her at all in public.

David O. Russell

David O. Russell is well known for his intensity, and the passion he puts in his films. However, this same passion can lead him to become quite aggressive and a bit dictatorial. While some actors might stand this, others have taken a stand against the director.

This is the case when it comes to George Clooney, one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood. Allegedly, the two of them had an immense feud over David’s treatment of the crew. Method acting is not for everyone. The level of commitment, introspection, and transformation required is extremely intense. Joaquin Phoenix

According to some reports, Joaquin Phoenix can be quite a problematic star. He likes to go over negotiations over his salary and terms for extended periods, which can even delay the start of shooting. Rumor has it that him being so difficult is the reason why he didn’t get the part of Dr. Strange in the Marvel films.

However, this might have been a blessing in disguise as Joaquin got to play the star in Joker. The film earned him abundant critical acclaim, and he won every award during the 2020 award season, including an Academy Award.

Beyoncé

There might be more reasons to call Beyoncé Queen B than her undeniable talent. Allegedly, she can get quite demanding when it comes to her special performances. Sources have stated that her demands for the Super Bowl were quite specific. For example, she wanted her water to be chilled at an exact temperature.

Maybe it was good for the health of her vocal cords? Furthermore, Beyoncé might be a bit of a germophobe. She requested that all toilet seats were changed to brand new seats. While this might work for a one-time performance, these demands could cause her a project when it comes to Hollywood.

William Shatner

William Shatner is one of the most controversial figures in Hollywood. While some people love him from his days on Star Trek, others can barely stand him due to his annoying antics on set. Allegedly, Shatner’s youth when he reached worldwide fame might have been one of the reasons why he became so obnoxious.

People have stated that Shatner always managed to make other people’s days take a turn for the worse. According to this, Shatner had a very bad attitude. Despite this, Shatner has had a steady career, and he shows no signs of going into retirement even now that he’s 88 years old.

Mickey Rourke

There’s something to be said for people who own up to their mistakes. Mickey Rourke, who has had a successful career as an actor and a boxer, admits to his past errors. He has even stated that he used to yell at directors and producers and that he would even have conflicts with his agents.

This is the surest way to not get a job within the industry. This and Rourke’s constant cosmetic surgery interventions turned him into someone difficult to hire. However, Rourke has managed to continue acting, and he seems to be remorseful about his past.

Dustin Hoffman

Another actor that seems to have some serious control issues is Dustin Hoffman. Allegedly, Hoffman likes to provide his input on every single detail of the film. While not necessarily OCD, this obsessive trait can be detrimental. Therefore, it has led him to reportedly clash with numerous directors, who despise having to work with him.

However, Hoffman’s talent has kept him afloat. This is a rarity in a world in which even the highest-grossing stars can find themselves outside Hollywood’s doors. Furthermore, Hoffman has won two Academy Awards, and he’s beloved by the audience.

Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell might be more subdued in her behavior now, but she earned a reputation as a very difficult model to work with. Her exotic beauty and talent on the runway might have kept her career afloat, but her explosive attitude deterred many people from working with her.

Besides, there will always be that terrible incident in which she threw her phone at her personal assistant during one of her temper tantrums. Thankfully, Campbell seems to have calmed down since then, and she looks a lot more balanced during public appearances.

Ashlee Simpson’s career has been filled with hits and misses. Unlike her much more likable sister, Jessica rumor has it that Ashlee is a very difficult person to work with. Allegedly, she was a nightmare during the shooting of Melrose Place, one of her few TV projects.

Ashlee, who was by then established as a singer, became very demanding on set, causing producers to take note. Since then, she has been involved in small projects, without much success in the music or the acting industry. While she’s not wanting for money, her career hasn’t been as successful as expected.

Linda Evangelista

Linda Evangelista was one of the most influential models and public figures in the ‘80s. Women around the world looked to imitate her grace and style, and brands wanted her as the face of their products. However, this huge success might have gotten to Linda’s head and it quickly showed.

Linda stated that she wouldn’t wake up for a paycheck lower than $10K, an especially exorbitant amount in the ‘80s. In return, numerous companies decided to go with more affordable and similarly talented models. She might have meant it as a joke, but it undoubtedly backfired.

Wesley Snipes

Wesley Snipes has had problems with his fellow co-stars, producers, and studios according to some reports. His attitude on set seems to be very off-putting, which caused him to be a difficult person to direct. Furthermore, his arrest for tax evasion gave the actor a bad reputation, and even part of his beloved audience turned on him.

However, Wesley seems to be on the process of coming back to Hollywood’s spotlight. One of his most recent roles was in the film, Dolemite in 2019. Many people believe that his performance was even superior to that of the lead star, Eddie Murphy.

Hugh Grant

Ben Affleck is not the first name that comes to mind when people think of actors falling out of grace with the studios. After all, since his Academy Award for Good Will Hunting, he became an A-list star. However, his latest role as Batman had studios considering how profitable Ben truly is.

Shia’s bizarre antics have caused him to become dynamite when it comes to his work. While his talent is evident, his behavior on set has left much to be desired on numerous occasions. Like other actors, Shia follows the method school, which has him in character for the duration of the shooting.
